When it comes to the title of the world’s best hotel for service, you might imagine a famous luxury establishment in an idyllic tropical hideaway. However, this year’s winner may surprise you as Lawton Court in Llandudno was named the world’s best rated hotel for Service in our 15th annual Travellers’ Choice awards for Hotels.
And it wasn’t the only world winning establishment in the UK.
It takes something truly special to win these esteemed titles when you consider there are over 1 million accommodations listed on TripAdvisor, so what is their secret to success? Read on to discover eight interesting things about three of the world’s best hotels for 2017.
- The UK is the home of world-class hotels!
Proving that the UK is still one of the top countries to visit in the world, the UK took home the #1 title in three of the eight world categories – more than any other country!
- Two world #1 hotels are situated less than 500 feet from each other!
Both situated near the famous Llandudno pier, which is also the longest in Wales, Elm Tree and Lawton Court are in fact neighbours, as they are just a two-minute walking distance from each other.
- Forget Mayfair and head to Lawton Court for great room rates
While you may be thinking that the world’s best service hotel is going to blow your budget, you’re in luck as Lawton Court offers rooms with a beachfront view starting from just £78, proving there’s no need for a celeb bank balance to enjoy the best service.
- Bindon Bottom has guest rooms named after famous authors
Inspired by poetry, the charming Victorian country house was actually built in 1817. To complement the poetic concept, the owners, Lisa and Clive named all five guest rooms after famous poets including Dorset dialect poets William Barnes and Thomas Hardy, Enid Blyton, John Keats and J.M.Barrie, who wrote Peter Pan.
- Lawton Court has an “honesty bar”
Part of Lawton Court’s amenities includes an honesty bar, which invites guests to pour their own drinks with payment left up to them. One TripAdvisor reviewer said, “We would recommend this hotel to anybody, spotlessly clean and the attention to details is lovely. The Honesty Bar is a great touch and the breakfast was ‘Spot On’. ”
- Lawson Court’s older sister hotel, Lauriston Court was named fifth for service
Open since 2014, the day-to-day running of the Lawton Court Hotel is a family affair, with husband and wife Scott and Hannah Lawton-Jones taking the helm. Next-door is Lawton Court Hotel’s older sister, Lauriston Court Hotel, which is run by Scott’s parents Carol-Lynn and Ian Robbins. No stranger to the Travellers’ Choice Awards, Lauriston Court took fifth place for Best Service in the world this year and was named the #1 hotel in the world in the same category in 2013, the success of which allowed the family to open Lawton Court just a year later.
- Elm Tree Hotel took a couple of other awards too
As well as taking the top prize in the Bargain category, Elm Tree also ranked sixth in the world for Small hotels and third in the UK for Best Service.
- They are no strangers to the TCH awards
Elm Tree Hotel was named the #2 Bargain hotel in the world in 2016 and Lawton Court took fourth place in the world for service. And Bindon Bottom is no stranger to glory either – this year being the second time it has claimed the #1 world prize in the B&B category – making it the first time a UK B&B has won the award twice.
